What is heatstroke in dogs?
Heatstroke is a dangerous overheating where your dog's body temperature rises above 40°C. Dogs cool down by panting, and if that is no longer sufficient, their temperature quickly rises.
Without intervention, this can lead to organ damage or death within minutes. Brachycephalic breeds, older dogs, puppies, and overweight dogs are at extra risk.
What symptoms indicate heatstroke?
The first signs are heavy, continuous panting, excessive drooling, and restlessness. As it worsens, you may see wobbling, a bright red or dark tongue, vomiting or diarrhea, and eventually lethargy or unconsciousness.

⚠️ What to do in case of heatstroke?
Act immediately: move your dog to a cool, shady spot. Offer small sips of water and cool them down with lukewarm water on their paws, belly, and groin — NO ice-cold water, as that constricts blood vessels.
Call your vet immediately, even if your dog seems to be recovering. Internal damage is not always visible.
How to safely cool your dog?
Use lukewarm to cool water, not ice water. Pour it over the paws, belly, and groin, turn on a fan, and ensure air circulation. If possible, measure the temperature and stop cooling around 39°C.

How to prevent heatstroke during the heatwave?
Prevention is easier than treatment. Only walk in the early morning or late evening, offer plenty of shade and fresh water, and keep your dog indoors during the hottest part of the day.
